Step Up 3D Movie Review – “Step Up” has never been a movie franchise that has garnered a lot of attention from the critics. Most of the reviews for the previous attempts at an engaging dancing movie have been negative, and “Step Up 3D” is receiving many reviews that are similar to the previous efforts. Director Jon Chu is back for the third time, and plays more of the role of a choreographer than a director. The break dancing and acrobatics are great, as they should be in any dancing movie, but it does not translate to a worthwhile experience for most moviegoers.
They have a wealth of dancing talent in the movie, but unfortunately most of them lack any serious acting ability. They pop and lock their way through the script. The best scenes are undeniably the more intense dancing scenes, and the narrative can be largely ignored if you are looking for a worthwhile movie experience.
Of course, the movie does have its fair share of romance. Luke, played by Rick Malambri, is the crew’s leader, and he quickly falls for the new recruit Natalie, who is played by Australian actress Sharni Vinson. The plot twists are predictable, and ultimately the romantic interest between the two of them fails to resonate with the viewers. It feels like it was plugged in out of necessity.
The movie will probably be most entertaining to young children and those of us who are looking for something a little more visually stunning. If you are only looking for great dancing, you might want to check out MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew.”
