It’s a Wonderful Afterlife Review
It’s a Wonderful AfterlifeGurinder Chadha, who is known for producing marriage-oriented movies like ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ and ‘Bride and Prejudice’, is back with ‘It’s a Wonderful Afterlife’. This forthcoming flick is a big-hearted “Curry On” comedy combined with supernatural powers. The music of the movie has been composed by Craig Pruess and is launched under the banner Studio 18 and Indian Films. The flick boasts of a long star cast that includes Shabana Azmi, Shaheen Khan, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Zoe Wanamaker, Jimi Mistri, Sally Hawkins, Goldy Notay, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Mark Addy, Ash Varrez and Adlyn Ross. The movie is set to release on May 7, 2010.
The story revolves around a single mother residing in London having a tough time in finding a perfect husband for her daughter. Mrs. Sethi (Shabana Azmi) is a widow living in Southall, London whose last wish is to see her daughter Roopi (Goldy Notay) get married. However, thanks to Roopi’s plump shape, unattractive moustache and opinionated mind, the girl fails to allure the suitors and is thus rejected time and again. Life takes a turn when the police are on a hunt out for a serial killer, who cooks ‘killer curry’. It is none other than Mrs. Sethi behind those killings. She had furiously murdered all the guys, who refused to marry Roopi. The victims are now back as ghosts. Surprisingly, Mrs. Sethi is ready to surrender, but she has only one last wish - to get her beloved daughter married off.

The spirits agree to help her find a suitable husband for Roopi, before the police zeroes down on the murderer. Here begins the journey of Mrs. Sethi, her dead companions and Roopi’s slightly physic and entirely nutty best friend, Linda, for finding the ideal groom for Roopi. The film emphasizes on Indian women in London taking charge of their lives, mothers’ responsibilities towards their daughters and murderers’ responsibilities towards victims. Gurinder Chadha promises the movie to be a killer romantic comedy with breath-taking performances. Will Gurinder Chadha be able to hit the box-office this time too like her previous ones? Come 7th May 2010 and audience would have a taste of the Indo-Western style of filmmaking!
