After Priyanka Chopra, it is Bipasha Basu who would be donning different looks in the much awaited ‘Pankh’, but this time the count stops at nine. Scripted and directed by debutant Sudipto Chattopadhyaya, each look of this suave and sensuous actress is set to reflect the attitude and mood of the male lead, played by debutant Maradona Robello. The music has been given by Raju Singh to the lyrics penned down by director Sudipto Chattopadhyaya. Releasing on 2 April, 2010, ‘Pankh’ has been produced by Sanjay Gupta, under the banner of White Feather Films. The story revolves around Baby Kusum who happens to be a boy, but plays female roles in films. Originally named Jerry, he is renamed Master Jai for the movies. On attaining maturity, Jerry (Maradona Robello) wants to be become a ‘hero’, but is pressurized by his poor parents, thus leaving him puzzled. Eventually, he ends up becoming a drug-abuser, spending all his time at home. Things get worse when he ends up falling in love with an imaginary actress, Nandini (Bipasha Basu). A fantasy woman, whom Jerry has conjured up in his head, taunts and fights with him. She prepares Jerry to face the camera as a young man, only to lead to another catastrophe.
Director Sudipto Chattopadhyaya has confidently highlighted the common practice of casting children in roles, contrary to their gender. Considered as Bollywood’s wildest take on movies so far, the movie is sure to touch every sensitive soul. Will the concept of sexual identity be able to tear the veil of shame covering the face of the glamorous profession of acting? Will it be able to touch the right chords with the audience? Will Jerry be finally able to achieve his dreams of being launched as a ‘hero’? Wait till 2 April 2010 for the movie to release to get these answers.
